After the Swiss Embassy in Tripoli was forced to close on 27 February 2011 for security reasons, it opened again on 15 October 2011. The Embassy will resume its complete range of services in stages. 

The risk of renewed, sporadic clashes in parts of the country cannot be discounted. It will take some time for the reconstruction of the administration and regular security services. State security services still only have limited possibilities for intervention and provision of medical services is not guaranteed. Depending on the conditions prevailing, at some locations Switzerland only has limited means, or in some cases none at all, of providing Swiss citizens with aid in emergencies. 

Travel to Libya should only be undertaken where absolutely necessary and under heightened security. Tourist visits are not advisable.
